I always want to start an event by announcing "No video, audio recording and no pictures." And of course I wanted to announce the presenters as "Special Agent"(However I was really bummed when I found out that there is no such thing as a "Regular" agent)
It was interesting to watch how the FBI worked. From the individual agents who were great representatives and professionals at all times to the presentation of factual cases that happened in Kansas (Scary)
Couple of things I learned.
1. www.IC3.gov (Internet crime reporting...Check it out)
2. How involved the FBI is in stopping child pornography and predators. (If you are not monitoring your kids...DO IT...they have no rights under your roof)
3. All the encryption in the world and our government can get through it if the want. (If they want is a bit weak. They explained the process of getting the correct legal process complete and lets just say they have to have LOTS of evidence and more than just a hunch like is shows on TV)
4. China and Russia wants our information
5. Don't answer phone surveys. It can give way more away than you think
6. Social engineering is much more likely to give away the keys than the technology. (In other words what is between the ears is now the weak link)
7. If you computer is not up to date and have AV you may be participating in helping the bad guys.
8. The FBI takes the 4th amendment VERY seriously...If you don't know what it is, look it up.
All in all, I send a special thanks to Special agent Smith and Special agent Kice. And yes I did get to see their badge, gun and credentials
Like always the team performed perfectly and the event was a total success. With over 100 attending including members of the press it was great publicity for Nex-Tech.
