Ouch

So I had to submit a head shot for an event I am speaking in later this month. I first submitted a photo taken a few years back that I had available. I was told it was not high enough resolution. So last night I took another one and sent it. The gal running the event thought they were two different people. Ouch.

Happy birthday to me.

Captain mean

So on the flight from Memphis to Orlando today I set next to a guy that was probably in his late 50's to early 60s. He was well dressed in upper business casual and was with 2 other guys.

Anyway he was a big shot in his own mind. On the phone before takeoff he was belittling the person on the phone. Referring to them as stupid and incompetent. In my opinion he was doing this for the benefit of those with him. He then told a story about how he caused a scene in an airplane over checking a bag. Really over all he was acting similar to a Jr. High kid showing everyone how important they are.

In trying to make himself look important it became obvious to me how unimportant he actually was. Important and good business men do not need these tactics to impress people. Actions speak louder than words.

Leaving a message

Yesterday I received a voice mail from a vendor that I really wanted to talk to. However when I went to call them back the return telephone number left was so fast and garbled that I could not make out the numbers.

Lost opportunity for both of us.

Sure I will probably be able to get the number for the vendor. However, I may get busy and not get back in touch, I may get a competitor.

Simply slow down, leaving the number is why you left the VM in the first place. To get a call back. Back to the basics.

It is ok to Lose

I watched a little bit of LeBron James's interview on TV last night. Just in case you do not know who he is, he was the basket ball star who was drafted out of HS into the pro's. I was expecting him to be not well read, maybe even a thug. This was the opposite. He was a business man, smart, making good business decisions and plays the game with his head.

One of the comments he made was about losing. How it is ok to lose as long as you learn from it. I will be honest, he said it better than that. He also went into saying that you need to take chances and when you do that you will lose some of the time. This is how you get better.

Well Said

Once again, looking forward and dreading

Going to VTN this week. (http://www.venturetechnetwork.ca/aboutVTN.htm)

Looking forward to this event. Looks like lots of great sales training and information. Some great key note speakers and classes. I do have the opportunity to lead a small group in discussion. I will send some updates later this week.

However I dread the travel. Leaving the kids, getting behind in the office and I have lots of projects going on at home.

There is some positive. I am traveling with a new rep and look at this as a real training opportunity. We get to discuss the business in general and take a step out of the daily business. In addition we are going to spend a day at Universal Studios. Should be fun.
