Texting while helping someone?

I have noticed twice at retail stores that the cashier was texting before I came into their lane. They did not stop until they were done even though I was waiting. I am surprised that companies allow people in these positions to use a cell phone at all during their shift. (They probably do not allow it but they do it anyway)

It is definitely poor customer service and creates a bad experience.

I agree with you - customer service has certainly diminished in the last few years. Once upon a time, I worked in a grocery store as a cashier and we were not allowed to converse with co-workers or friends who happened by if we had a customer. Now, you have to wait for the cashier to finish their conversation with the person working next to them, the bag boy, or whomever may be close by before you are waited on.
